Chemical Peel Q & A

What is a chemical peel?

A chemical peel is a skin treatment used to improve the appearance of your skin, usually on your face, hands, or neck.

During your chemical peel, your MD specialist applies a chemical solution to your skin to exfoliate it and eventually it peels off, revealing smoother, newer skin underneath. Different chemical peels can be used to effectively treat:

  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Aging skin
  • Wrinkles and lines
  • Scars, including acne scars
  • Sagging skin

Chemical peels can also be used to treat melasma, a skin condition that results in discolored patches.

What are the different types of chemical peels?

There are three types of chemical peels.

Light or superficial peel

Light or superficial peels use milder acids to penetrate and exfoliate only the outer layer of your skin. The healing process takes between one to seven days.

Medium peel

A medium peel is mid-grade strength and penetrates the outside and middle layers of your skin to remove damaged skin cells. Medium peels have a healing process of around one or two weeks.

Deep peel

A deep peel is the strongest chemical peel that deeply penetrates the middle layer of your skin. Most deeper peels can only be used on the face one time and may require between 14 to 21 days for your skin to completely heal.

The MD specialists also offer a variety of pharmaceutical and natural peels and skin care services, including Glo Skin Beauty products that combine plant derivatives with firming, nutritive, and reparative antioxidant ingredients. These carefully selected ingredients work in harmony to enhance skin health and appearance.

From professional in-office treatments to home care products, the MD specialists choose Glo Skin as one of the leading reliable beauty brands that offer compounded and personalized prescription products for healthy, beautiful skin.

Who is a good candidate for a chemical peel?

Chemical peels work on all skin types. You’re not a good candidate for a chemical peel if you have:

  • An infection
  • An active skin disease
  • Cut or broken skin
  • Sunburn
  • Herpes simplex 1 sores
  • Taken certain acne treatments in the previous six months
  • Rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, or dermatitis
  • A history of abnormal skin scarring

Most people are good candidates for a chemical peel.
