Botox Q & A

MD Weight Loss Skincare & Laser

What does Botox treat?

Botox is primarily used to reduce the appearance of facial fine lines and wrinkles, including crow’s feet, severe frown lines, and forehead lines. Botox can also treat excessive sweating and other complications.

In the right small doses, Botox is a highly effective and safe cosmetic procedure.

How does Botox work?

Botox is the toxin derived from the bacterium clostridium botulinum. In larger amounts, the toxin can cause a form of muscle paralysis called botulism, typically associated with food poisoning.

In small diluted amounts and when injected directly into the facial muscles, Botox causes a controlled relaxation of the muscles and diminishes facial creases and lines. Injections of Botox temporarily paralyze your muscle activity.

Your MD aesthetic specialist carefully injects tiny amounts of the drug into either your skin or muscles. The number of injections you need depends on the extent of the area treated.

After your treatment, there’s no downtime and you can return to your normal activities. You might experience minor, temporary bruising at the injection site, but this should subside within a day.

Botox injections usually begin working a few days after your treatment and the results can last three months or longer, depending on the area being treated. To maintain the effects of Botox, you’ll need follow-up injections.

What is the difference between Botox and Xeomin?

Xeomin is also made with the botulinum toxin and blocks nerve activity in your muscles, causing a temporary reduction in your muscle activity.

Different than Botox, Xeomin is considered a naked injectable that doesn’t contain additives, only the botulinum toxin type A. This means there’s a decreased risk of developing antibodies against it compared to other available neurotoxins.

Your body responds to foreign invaders and attacks by creating antibodies and resistance in an attempt to prevent the neurotoxin from having its desired effects.

The effects of Xeomin are typically noticeable within one week and last between three to six months. While it’s comparable to Botox, Xeomin and Botox shouldn’t be used interchangeably, since the neurotoxins in these products can diffuse differently. Botox has protective proteins that are clustered around the active part of the molecule, whereas Xeomin does not.

Botox and Xeomin are popular and successful solutions to look younger without surgical intervention and diminish bothersome fine lines and wrinkles without significant downtime. Call or schedule your personal consultation online to visit MD Weight Loss Skincare & Laser.
